Colourful Macaw Parrot
Macaw is the largest parrot in the world. There are 17 sub-species of parrot and one species went extinct a few decades ago. Macaw is a parrot with a very long tail, strong beak and very developed wings. The legs are short and each foot have four fingers, which end in sharp strong claws. The length of the parrot ranges from 30 cm to 1 m, depending on the type. The body of Macaw is covered with different color feathers. The areas under the eyes are black and white and the rest of the body is red, blue, green and orange. Females lay one or two eggs every 3 to 5 years. After several weeks the chick’s hatch and both parents are taking care of them. These parrots are active during the day and go to sleep with the first dusk. They feed on seeds, leaves and fruit. Macao inhabits central, eastern and southern parts of South America. Due to their attractiveness, these birds are legally and illegally exported throughout the world.
